Empowering Adolescent Girls in Narmada District

Geographical Area:  Five blocks (Dediyapada, Garudeshwar, Nanded, Sagbara and Tilakwada) of Narmada district, a predominantly tribal and an aspirational district of Gujarat.  . There are 221-gram panchayat and 552 villages in the district. The district has 950 Anganwadi Centres.

Project Outreach: Approximate 10,000 adolescent girls in 14 to 18 years  of Narmada district.

Stakeholders and frontline workers: CDPOs, Supervisors, Purna Coordinators, Block Nutrition Managers of Purna Scheme

Project Period: 2025 -2028

Project Goal

• To equip adolescent girls with knowledge and skills for a better quality of life.

Objectives:

1. Build the capacity of ICDS functionaries as trainers to enhance adolescents’ knowledge on key topics, including gender equality, legal provisions for safety and security, life skills, healthy diets, prevention of anaemia and undernutrition, and menstrual hygiene.
2. Ensure the regular conduction of educational sessions through Sakhi Saheli groups.

Proposed activities (2024 to 2027)

1. A situation analysis to assess the baseline on identified indicators.
2. Orientation of the concerned functionaries and develop yearly action plan.
3. Capacity building of the Master trainers and Anganwadi workers. The trainings will be done phase wise. The list of the topics included in the training is given in annexure I
4. Interactive capacity building sessions with adolescent girls
5. Regular coordination with the district officials to review the progress, challenges and solutions
6. Endline survey to learn the change
7. Photo documentation and videography to showcase the processes and approaches used in the implementation of the project
8. Sharing meeting at the district level.

1. Percent of increased in the awareness among the adolescent girls on the issues pertaining to their development.
2. Percentage of adolescent girls who are making informed choices towards healthy diets and life
3. Percent of adolescent girls who have improved consumption of IFA tablets
